Budapest Region

The Budapest Public Employment Service Non-Profit Company was founded in 1996 by the Budapest Municipal Assembly. Its main purpose is to support unemployed persons in Budapest by organising public employment.

We help unemployed persons who approach the Service by increasing their chances of finding employment and by improving their situation in life. We provide subsidised employment and assistance that fit the individual. We organise services for the district governments of Budapest, which help person-oriented harmonisation of social and employment policy responsibilities. A professional coordination, development and counselling service also exists to assist this activity. We also provide for-profit services to ensure the internal and external stability of the Service.

The Service has been organising public employment and related services since 1996. Its competence extends to a total of 430 000 inhabitants and 5 800 registered unemployed including more than 600 people registered as homeless. It deals with 2000 clients and arranges public employment contracts for 1000 persons each year. It reintegrates around 100-120 persons into the primary labour market every year. Twenty-three persons work full time (in non-subsidised jobs) at the headquarters, the five branch offices and the help desks of the Service to organise the work of c. 500 public employees. Highly trained patrons help them to integrate and to get used to the work environment through personal assistance, employment and social policy tools. Good relations cultivated with local non-profit organisations are indispensable for providing efficient service.

The Service was one of the first non-profit organisations to get involved in managing the problem of unemployment by organising and coordinating subsidised employment. Its professional experience can be potentially very useful for non-profit organisations as well.

The Service provides important professional coordination services for dealing with employment problems and related social problems in Budapest and the districts, and carries out research, developing activities and consultancy, prepares publications and reference materials, organises professional consultative workshops and conferences.
